The sky is cryin'... |
Gloom and gloomier... |
I think it right to say that the PNW is awfully darned beautiful, even when drenched. |
This calls for more coffee. |
Moving on.
The rain stopped long enough for me to clean out the last flower bed. Go me!
If I understand things correctly, the sage will grow back. If I did it wrong... well, I'm told it's impossible to kill. I guess we'll find out! |
So with all this rain, I've had gobs of time (figuratively speaking) to daydream about what I'd like to be doing in the garden right now, but realistically probably won't be able to do for quite some time. You know, the planting, and the sitting out in the sun watching things grow, and the peace of a summer morn... Anyway, I want to add a bag of potting soil to the little corner bed (pictured above), and another bag to the plant bed that runs along the side of the house. Then a couple of bags for the foot locker, and another bag to fill my grow bags.
I'm not sure if I mentioned the grow bags in any previous posts. I bought some reusable grocery bags, having been told they work great as budget grow bags. I figured at fifty cents a piece, I might as well give it a shot.
Last night I started thinking about hanging the grow bags on the fence, which would look neat, plus keep it high and away from little fingers. I wasn't sure a full sized bag would be strong enough to support the weight of all that wet soil, so I decided to cut one of my bags in half and turn it into two skinny bags, each with one handle. This was the result.
Very baggy! |
Jeez, that top stitch is horrible! I think I will do it differently next time. It will still hold something, so it'll do. |
I'm not sure how I came to the conclusion that a bag with two handles will magically be more durable if divided into two bags half the size, but each with only one handle. Someone out there with brains is probably rolling their eyes right now. Stop it. Just stop. Haha, anyway, I'm going to find some cheapo hooks for the fence. It will be an experiment. Herbs or something. Or bag carrots. ...Bag carrots?
The end.
P.S.
I know how you feel, kid. |
So excited for the growing season so I can read your blog again! Beautiful pictures. Can't wait to see how the bags work!
ReplyDeleteMe too! Are you going to try anything in pots at the new house?
DeleteYeah, but probably not until next year. I want more time to plan.
